Maze Runner, Hunger Games... both the same to me..

So, I'm sitting down just wanting to watch some bullshit Youtube video by these "internet comedy dicks and their sexy friend" as they have once described themselves, and I get a pop-up for the new trailer for The Maze Runner. I then check my subscription box and watch the How It Should Have Ended (HISHE) Maze Runner video.

Honestly? It looks just like fucking The Hunger Games to me.

Dystopian future for children: check
Forced into stupid competition for survival: check
Main character will no doubt be driving force to break system: check
Stupidly pointless love problems: check
Have to achieve inane and arbitrary condition to escape: check

For fuck's sake - dystopian futures are the new in-thing, apparently. And I'm definitely feeling my age as I just don't see the appeal whatsoever for either of these franchises. I mean... fuck, ignoring the stupidity of every character in these things, just from observations from one trailer, one HISHE video and watching the two Hunger Games movies, they literally have bad guys with no motive to do these things.

Why the fuck is Evil Adult #1 even doing this simulatory bullshit in the first place? I mean, take Hunger Games. Instead of some sort of idiotic death simulator made for the amusement of "The Capital" and nothing more, why not make it the same goddamn death simulator but for, you know, something which makes sense? Like, a battleground for survival for failing members in your obligatory "Evil Army Training School for Kids"?

I mean, this is ignoring Katniss' literal awfulness as a character. She's not suited for that universe whatsoever - in a world where hunting for your own food is illegal and punishable by death or whatever, a trusting naive girl who isn't ridiculously selfish should get eaten alive, not be the central figure, even if its just as a figurehead, of a rebellion. That's stupid. And I've read the synopsis of the series, so knowing that her love interest (Peter?) is actually even MORE!?! selfless is not an argument to justify her.

Plus, both situations are literally retarded. This is, from what I have gathered, set After the End/ Apocalypse, right? These bad guys want to continue humanity as a species in some form... right? So why oh why do you use children for sport as opposed to adults? Is it the fact that kids aren't as likely to be able to keep their heads in difficult and rushed situations or something? Or is child violence somehow more desensitizing in these futures that its more tolerable than the adult versions of these things? I mean, children have more life to live or whatever, and they can be taught to survive this new world just as easily as adults.

Ugh. Just... just don't bloody tell me that my personal favourite thing, dystopian future, is the prime thing at the box office at the moment. Because that stuff? That stuff is absolute garbage.
